US economy records bumper jobs growth in April

This news item talks about in US the economy created 288.00 jobs. The big part of these jobs came in professional and business services, which added 75,000 jobs during the month. According to the latest figures from the US Labor Department, there is 6,3% of unemployment and this is the worst. This is the lowest unemployment since 2008…

My opinion about this new is that it-s incredible the way of our world changes… I said this because here there is a big difference between the people who are unemployed. However a 6,3% are a lot of people and I hope in a near future this will change but not only in the US, I hope that this will change around the world.

Concerns grow in Europe over threat from deadly pig virus

http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-27256466

This news item talks about in France where people are waiting to suspend pig-related imports from a number of countries, because a there is a big number deadly swine virus… This virus know as Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea Virus (PEDv) has killed a big number of pigs around the world.

This virus isn’t harmful for the humans, but France wants to reduce it. The researchers think that the origin of this virus was in France. My opinion about this new is that is very sad for us, because we can’t permit it. Now we are losing a lot of money with this virus but I think very soon we will find a solution.

Oscar Knox: Mallusk boy 'Wee Oscar' dies after cancer battle

This news talk about Oscar Knox a boy who was 5 years old, who died last Thursday after a fight against cancer which lasted two years…
Oscar Knox received specialist treatment in October 2012 after his family reached their £250,000 fundraising target to pay for it. After the first diagnosis his parents set up the Twitter account with the finality that found help from the rest of the world. Evidently this account increased very fast, so that’s why his parents could lengthen the battle…

From my point of view, the reaction of the world is the most normal reaction because this family need a little support and with the collaboration of everyone we can do small things that one day will probably become too big things.

Pressure sensors to help prevent pain for amputees

This new talks about researchers who have developed a new pressure sensor, the finality of this sensor consist in preventing possible dangerous sores. If this project, which is being done at Southampton University is satisfactory the sensors may also be used for other cases for example for wheelchair-users. People who have some amputation said that is very distressing because very often they have sores…
My opinion about this news is that it’s a very good advance for our society. I’m sure that all of us know how much these people suffer, that’s why I think it’s a big advance. Because we don’t know if one day we will be in this situation, and if this happens I’m sure that we will want to live in good conditions so that’s why we have to fight with the technology so these people have more commodities to live their lives.

The people with 'animal powers'

This news talks about people who want to be similar to animals. For example Ridler is a man who tattooed his face and all of his body, he wanted to be a Leopard. He’s living in a derelict stone cottage in the far north of Scotland in a similar situation as a cat…
Nowadays with the advance of the technology we can make people who have any prosthesis can mimic animal abilities.  An example is Nadya Vessey, a girl who didn’t develop her legs… Years ago, she had a mermaid tail designed that allows her to glide through the water like a dolphin.

In my opinion if our society can develop this, I think it can be a big deal in a near future because for most of us I’m sure we like doing similar abilities which some animal can do. I say this because who never dreams that he or she is an animal? I have done this a lot of times so that’s why I think it can be a big deal.

Apple issues fix to reported OS X security hole

This news item talks about that apple has issued a fit to a flaw in its OS X operating system. This software update was released so that people could protect their information. If they didn’t do this update they could be attacked by somebody and lose their information…
When apple detected this immediately a spokesperson said: "We are aware of this issue and already have a software fix that will be released very soon." Finally they solved the problem so well.

In my opinion it’s very sad that a big company has these errors… I know it’s very difficult for them not to make errors because the technology in our society has progressed a lot but, we are talking about apple one of the most popular companies in our world. My opinion about apple is a little sad because I think for them money is the principal thing and the clients the secondary.

Virtual arm eases phantom limb pain

This news item talks about doctors who have devised a way to treat amputees with phantom limb pain. Thanks to this invention the patient can move an imaginary arm which he or she can see in the monitor of a computer.
Ture Johanson said that his pain has been reduced a lot thanks to this new invention which consists basically in a new computer program and he now uses this at home regularly.

My opinion about this news is that it’s a fantastic invention which he has done. Ture Johanson explained a little that over decades he has tried numerous therapies, including hypnosis but to no avail… So that’s why I’m happy now, because people who suffer and accidents and lose a limb can improve their style of life.

Electric scooter design that makes a hole lot of sense

This news item talks about a new scooter which has a few advantages over actual scooters.

These new electric scooters are created by Lit Motors, a small company based in San Francisco, California.  These electric scooter are perfect for carrying cargo, it has come up with a design that it says should be safe, more efficient, more useful but not more expensive.

In my opinion it’s a good project because a lot of people carry too much weight on their scooters. The principal problem I think is the motorbike isn’t so big and these people haven’t got a car so that’s why I think inventing this scooter is a perfect thing for us. Moreover it’s electric so that’s why it doesn’t contaminate, for me this is one of the best part of this invention and the other part that I like so much is the price, it’s more o less the same as a normal scooter. In conclusion it’s a big invention because has a lot of improvements over a normal scooter and the price is more o less the same.

The medicine in our minds

This news talk about the miracle pills which in reality shouldn’t do anything. Placebos are in all shapes and sizes, they contain no active ingredient but mysteriously they often work.

Paul explains that he doesn’t do anything without his medication, without it he doesn’t have enough dopamine to start to do things in his life. A few years ago, Paul took part in a test that Prof Stoessl was conducting, it required him to stop taking his medication. The next day Paul went to the hospital and explained his symptoms in full flare-up.

My opinion about this news is that I think for some people medicine is more psychological than other thing, and this in our society is a problem because every day the medicine is more expensive and we can’t throw away the money in this way.

Indonesia volcano Sinabung in deadly eruption

This news is about a volcano which has erupted in Indonesia’s western island of Sumatra. Months ago, in September it began to rumble. The volcano was dormant for three years.

In its explosion the volcano spewed clouds of hot ash into the air, engulfing nearby villages. In this disaster eleven people died; among the dead was a group of schoolchildren who were on a trip.

My opinion about this, is first of all that I’m sorry for all the families… On the other hand I’m sorry for Indonesia, Indonesia has lost a lot of things because the volcano destroyed a lot of things. We can’t do anything to fight against the disasters…Once again, I’am sorry for Indonesia.

Millions of passwords and email details stolen in Germany

This news talks about that in Germany the passwords and other details of sixteen million email users have been stolen. The scale of this attack is equivalent to a fifth part of the German population being at risk.

They think that the most of the targeted lives were in Germany, so the German Federal Office of Security has set up a website where people can check if they are a victim of this crime.

My opinion about it is that it's sad for the people who are a victim of this crime. I feel sad for them but I can't do anything, the technology is more intelligent than all of us. In my opinion peple who do this with techonolgy, if they could see the things to improve our society I'm sure that wouldn't do it anymore..but unfortunately I think the people who do it never had the vision that I have of the world...

Body piercing controls wheelchair

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-25118896

This news talk about the progress of paralised people.
This progress consists in a movement of a tiny magnet in a tongue piercing which is detected by sensors and coverted into commands which can control a wheelchairs and other gadgets.
Scientists did a test and saw that twenty three able-bodied people and eleven with tetraplegia could control a wheelchair or a computer.
My opinion about this news it that it's a good advance because a tretaplegic person could do a lot of things if he or she could move on their own. This is a big advance and if he could control a computer maybe he could work, and have a ''normal life''. Nowadays if he or she could do things it would be one of the biggest things that technolgy can do. In my point of view this novetly could saved a life psychologically, because the person is not left with a useless life as it was before but his life is just a little stagnant.

Can retirement kill you?

This news talks about if retirement is bad for your health. Harry Prosen is an old man who stopped to work at 71 years old but he hasn’t stopped.
A few years later when he was 83 years he corrected a manuscript which had six hundred pages because he wanted to keep up. Harry thinks that stop work is bad for you and that’s why he now works with vocal groups and practice nearly every day.
There are a lot of studies which have in common that people who was differ life more than other people. That’s why Harry thinks he shouldn’t stop doing something.

My opinion about this it that I agree with what the news said. I agree when the news said  ‘’cutting down on the number of working hours is a better alternative than full retirement for many people’’. From my point of view it the worst thing that a person can do is to stop working altogether it’s positive that people are busy, and if people do this I think that maybe there would be extended life expectancy.

World Solar Challenge: Crash ends Cambridge University race hopes

This news item talks about a disaster that happened in a university in Britain. This university mades a fantastic solar car. This car are the only car which are qualified to take part in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, but the vehicle had an accident just days before the start and the team have had to withdraw from the race…
‘’Resolution’’ was one of the twenty eight vehicles entered in the Challenger category of three thousands kilometers, the race lasted more o less seven days. This vehicle was built by a team of sixty students of the university; the car weighs 120Kg and is designed to run at an average speed of 80km/h.

My opinion about it is positive; they worked very hard because they were among the worlds top  28 teams. How many people can say this? I think less than one thousand people, which is nothing when you think how big the world is. That’s why want to congratulate this team, because they have work very hard and they have gone so far.

Eye cells could help diagnose Alzheimer's disease

This news talks about is study that was done by Doctor Turner and her team which was revealed at the US Society for Neuroscience conference.
This team did a test with mice; they transformed normal mice into mice with Alzheimer. With this test Doctor Turner arrived at the conclusion that in future opticians are able to detect which people have Alzheimer by only watching theireyes.

My opinion about this is so good. Nowadays Alzheimer is more usual in our society. It’s fantastic news that in the future one optician only watching your retina can diagnose if you have or not Alzheimer. I think this is the first step to give a solution to this disease.

A robot developed by Japanese scientists is so fast it can win the rock-paper-scissors game against a human every single time.

This news talks about a robot who plays a rock-paper-scissors game and never loses.
This robot was developed by a group of Japanese scientists in the Univeristy of Tokyo in 2012. The name of this robot is Janken and it use high-speed recognition and reaction, rather than predicction, that's why Janken wins every time.
The robot can recognize in only one millisecond what shape has the human hand and prepare an immediate movement to win the game.
My opinion about this robot it's a good example of the hard work in the scientist world. It's incredible what the scientist world can do...Now they have invited a fabulous robot cheat that has never lost any game, and it reacts in one millisecond this is fantastic. I think that we have to keep working hard and do big things, because today we do incredibly little things but tomorrow we can do big things with the theroy that we learn when we do little things.

Chinese police rescue 92 abducted children

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-24313452

This news item talks about abducted children in China. The police think that the traffickers abducted the children in the south-western Yunnan and Sichuan and after sold them in other regions.

Last year a similar thing happened but more than 24.000 women and children were freed by the police. It's sad, but now the history life the same that last year...

People think that the freedom of movement as a result of economic reform, have made it easier for trafficking gangs to operate.

My opinion about this news is very sad...I don't understand why these things happen in the XXI century. We work hard every day, we have a lot of policemen and we have advance our techonogy a lot. However this isn't sufficient, I don't know how this happens! I feel terrible, I feel like they are laughing at us...

Abducted children/ ''Nens secuestrats''
Were freed/ ''van ser posats en llibertat''
Freedom of movement/ ''llibertat de moviment''
